Music & Drama
Music education is an integral part of Coláiste Íde. Coláiste Íde students have been honored serially by The Royal Irish Academy’s High Achiever Award system and the traditional music teachers are all very well-known musicians.
Students have the opportunity to undertake the Department of Education Music and Musicianship examinations for Junior and Leaving Certificate. Students may also participate in The Royal Irish Academy examinations in Music, Voice Training and Speech & Drama.
In Coláiste Íde there is a wide variety of choices that is sure to satisfy all demands.
Singing Voice Training and Sean-Nós
Traditional Music Violin, Tin Whistle, Flute, Accordion, Concertina and Guitar
Classical Music Flute, Violin, Viola, Cello, Piano and Keyboard
The School Choir assembles for practice every Wednesday between 1:30-2:00pm.
Debating/ Public Speaking
Students are encouraged annually to participate in Irish (Gael Linn) and English debating (Mental Health Public
Speaking, Soroptimist Public Speaking, Poetry Aloud. Students are nominated by the teaching staff, who work with the
students at lunch time, after school and at weekends in preparation for the various events. We believe that the
experience that students gain from debating in secondary school enhances their self-confidence and enhance their
ability to participate in public life in the future.
The School Library
A well-stocked Library houses non-fiction, fiction and reference books, newspapers and journals in both the English and the Irish language.
Opening Hours: Monday 1:30-2:00p.m.
All students are encouraged to read both Irish and English books in the study each day from 8:45-9:00p.m. and also at weekends.
